The General makes a speech before the Japan-American Society at the Industry Club. He mentions the Communist threat, refers to American soldiers as ambassadors of good will; says that he is deeply impressed by the friendliness of the Japanese people. He speaks of the bombing of strictly military objects in North Korea and adds that the only safe policy of all countries of the UN is to be strong. Japan will help in developing these capabilities of strength for the defense of their own country, he says. Silent cut-ins: Mr. Robert D Murphy, Mrs Clark at table. Mark Wayne Clark (1896-1984) was born in Madison Barracks, New York. After he graduated from West Point in 1917, he commissioned in the infantry. During World War I, he became wounded in combat while commanding a battalion in France. He served with the War Department General Staff from 1921 to 1924.
